MMS (Microsoft Media Services)

Microsoft's streaming server Microsoft Media Services (also called NetShow Services) uses the Microsoft Media Server (MMS) protocol to transfer unicast data. MMS can be transported via UDP or TCP. If the Windows Media Player client cannot negotiate a reliable connection with MMS over UDP, it will attempt connection over TCP. If MMS fails, though less than ideal, a modified version of HTTP connection will be attempted over TCP that ensures connectivity.
